Oncogen es cause promotion of cell growth and reproduction. Tumor supressor genes cause inhibition of cell division. Hence triggering of oncogenes and supression of tumor supressor genes contributes to cancer (Yarbro, 2011). Causes of cancer There are several causes for cancer and they depend on the site of origin of cancer. For example, lung cancer is caused because of exposure to tobacco, asbestos and certain pollutants. Skin cancer is caused by exposure to sunlight or due to chronic skin ulcer. In some cancers, the causative agent can be infection like cervical cancer which is caused by human papilloma virus. Human T-cell Leukemia Virus-I, a human retro virus is known to cause adult T-cell leukemia. Leukemia, which is a type of blood cancer is caused by chemicals like Benzene and other aromatic hydrocarbons, some insecticides, hexachlorcyclohexane, phenyl butazone (Shafer, 162), alkylating agents, and a few chem-therapeutic drugs. Certain environmental factors also can lead to cancer. St udies have shown that ionizing radiation causes leukemia in experimental animals. There has been increased incidence of leukemia in the survivors of Japanese bomb explosions and those exposed to occupational radiation. Also, those receiving radiation therapies for various causes including spondylitis may be at increased risk for leukemia. Chromosomal translocations involving the Nucleophosmin gene occur frequently in myeloid and lymphoid cancers. This gene is a multifunctional phosphoprotein to which both tumor-suppressor and oncogenic functions have been attributed. In some cancers, genetic factors play an important role like in breast cancer and leukemias. There are some families with excessive incidence of leukemias. There is high concordance among identical twins if acute leukemia occurs in the first year of life. Also, the incidence of leukemia is high in various congenital genetic disorders like Down's syndrome, Bloom's Syndrome, Klinefelter's syndrome, etc. In chronic granulo cytic leukemia, an abnormality in the chromosome 21 has been detected. This abnormal chromosome is called Philadelphia chromosome (Ph-1) and is characterized by the absence of a part of one of its long arms. Certain pre-existing diseases can lead to cancers. He is unaffected by what goes on around him, despite people bringing him into personal situations. Nick is factual with details. He is as well, a very private person though, and tells us little of himself during the events. In telling us about his growing up years shows us that Nick has learned many admirable things. In Chapter 1 he tells us how he was raised and the advices given him by his father. These included council on how to speak to people in general. Tale of the Haunted GPS Navigation System The storyteller, who happens to be my cousin, currently works as a math teacher. He is 24 years old and lives at home with his mother and father. His mother, a talented artist, works for the United States Postal Service and his father, who is an electrician, installs security systems for homes and offices. Both of his parents are Korean and although his older brother was born in Korea, he was born in the United States. He is very athletic and enjoys skateboarding and snowboarding. When he was younger he was always the one most willing to take risks in the family. He is also a talented guitarist. He also has deep religious convictions as a devout Christian, when asked what he thinks of ghost stories in general he merely shrugged them off as stories meant for entertainment rather than anything of merit. When asked about the origins of the particular story he said that a friend mentioned it at a party several years ago. The story was told during a snowboarding trip to Vermont this past spring. There were two members in the audience (including myself) and it was told in the room of the Red Oak Inn at around 11:30 PM. My cousin, who was seated on his bed, made eye contact with each audience member as he began his story. A couple was interested in buying a navigation system so they visited several stores in search of the best deal. In most cases the prices were too expensive for them so they went on craigslist and found a great deal on a used GPS system. They received the unit in the mail and wanted to try it out right away. They installed their GPS unit [imitates placing a GPS unit in a car windshield with hands] in the car and turned it on. The wife, out of curiosity, hi... ...of the motivating factors behind their purchase was the fact that the unit was cheap. There have been many cases where items posted on sites such as craigslist or ebay that have very attractive prices turn out to have serious defects or are fake. In this case the couple bought a haunted GPS unit that had killed the previous owner. The story reveals society’s general fear of things that are second-hand or things bought through websites where users, not companies, sell their wares. The story of the haunted GPS unit served as a commentary on the consequences of over-reliance as well as blind trust in not only navigation units, but also technology in general. It also served as a warning against buying items that were at too good to be true prices from websites where the sellers are not reputable companies but users who have no desire to maintain a good reputation.

In this paper I am going to cover the cultural and ethical factors involved with a company by the name of Levi Strauss and Company and the issues the company faces when attempting to expand to another country. Expansion is a goal that all companies want to achieve; because there are a lot of benefits a company can receive when expanding, makes more money, getting into the stock market, lower cost for part and labor, and most of all becoming a well-known name brand. With expanding it is not just glitz and glamor there are moral cultural and ethical issues to face. When bring a product and organization to another country. Cultural Issues when Facing a Global Organization Levi Strauss and Company is a well-known clothing brand. This organization was originated in North America, state California City San Francisco. Levi Strauss and Company manufactures clothes in 110 countries outside of the US; and as a result of that t50% or more of the organizations profits came from overseas. Levi Strauss and Company has had to face some of those ethical and cultural issues for the public and exterior partner companies. This issue stems from factories in Bangladesh because there are reports of the organization having under age workers. In Bangladesh children working at a young age in common. In their soil this is not an issue because without the children and parents working there is not enough money to support the family. The issue in this situation is in Levi Strauss and Company terms and engagement is say that the organization is not allowed to higher or work kids under the age of 16 because in the US it is illegal. Child labor laws is an issue that always get the media, workers right unions, stock holders and investment firms upset. (Levi Strauss and Co., 2010). The Ethical Perspectives Ethical perspectives set by last Levi Strauss and Company comply with the majority of other global organization. To be considered ethical all global businesses must follow the following. †¢Emphasizes accountability for anticipating and responding to ethical crises †¢Encourages participation in decision making †¢Aligns personal, professional, and organizational aspirations and behaviors †¢Promotes courageous efforts to identify and resolve ethical dilemmas †¢Fosters dialogic communication †¢Establishes transparent structures, policies, and procedures As of now the only standards being upheld and practices by Levi’s are A Global Anti-Bribery Policy An Anti-Corruption policy (Shaw, W. H., & Barry, H.,2001) A Worldwide Code of Business Conduct 2010 was not the only year Levi Strauss and company had issues complying with child labor laws; back in 2008 the company has issues with their cotton fields in Uzbekistan. The organization has not tried to cover up any of the information that has been found; in fact the company said they have been looking into changing that correcting that situation. That situation ended in Levi Strauss and Company not accepting any fabric from Uzbekistan and all of their factories. Doing this solves the issue in regards to the company but this does not stop Uzbekistan form doing the same thing with other countries. Levi Strauss and Company has been good about handling their issues when it comes to violating child labor laws. In most cases when the organization finds out this is happening the first thing they do is fire all of the underage workers and make sure they cannot be rehired until they reach the proper age limit. Another step Levi Strauss and Company has taken is education students and teachers of the child labor laws to avoid future issues with child labor laws. Ethical Perspectives in Different Cultures When a business has expanded to over 100 countries facing ethical and cultural issues is something that can’t be avoided; and sorry to say child labor laws are not the only ethical or cultural issue the organization has to deal with in the global market. Some may try to compare this to a discrimination issue, because this topic has become popular today. In most cases decimation consist of religion, race, age, or gender. However that is just in the US because in other countries businesses are straight forward when it comes to discriminating and it is not viewed as illegal. This raises the question should businesses adapt to the ways of the country that they are doing businesses in? But if this is done will it lower the standers of the organization and the relationship between the public and the business. Aside from child lobar laws corruption is another issue Levi Strauss and Company has to face. The organization have factories in Vietnam and just like all other businesses in Vietnam there is a tax to be paid; not a government tax but a tax form corrupt people in the country, it is said that 67% of businesses in Vietnam have to pay bribes. (Unruh & Arreola, 2010). These are just some of the issues that a business has to face when they expand to other countries. it is clear to see the different ethical stander set be different countries in regards to Levi Strauss and Company. This organization is not different than any other working outside of the US; they must commit to fixing the issue that come about when operation a business in another country and maintain the ethic codes set by the organization. Levi Strauss and Company has ablations to their employees, customers, and the public. They took a vow to operate their business in an ethical manor. Just talking the talk is not enough Levi Strauss and Company need to stay on top of everything to avoid child labor and all other issues when running a business outside of the US Conclusion In all there are a large number of businesses they have traveled outside of the US in efforts to make more money. What the businesses need to work in is businesses sticking to ethical standers; and making sure that all standers being set by the company are completely being followed. The best thing a business can do is stay up to date with all methods of operation in countries outside of the US. Every AP Statistics Practice Test Available Free and Official SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips Are you taking the AP Statistics exam soon and want to make sure you’re prepared?One of the best ways to measure your progress and figure out which areas you need to focus on is to take practice exams.There are a lot of AP Statisticspractice exams available; however, some are higher-quality than others. Taking a poorly written practice exam can cause you to study the wrong things and give you an inaccurate picture of what the real AP exam will be like. In this guide, I’ll go over every AP Statistics practice test available, explain if and how you should use each one, and end with a schedule you can follow to help you incorporate practice tests into your study plans. Official AP Statistics Practice Exams Official practice exams are those that have been created by the College Board (the organization that develops and administers all the actual AP exams). They are always the top resources to use because you can be sure that they accurately reflect the format and content of the real AP exam. There are three types of official practice resources: Complete Practice Tests The College Board has released two complete examswhich are linked below. 2012 AP Statistics Released Exam 1997 AP Statistics Released Exam Both links include the complete exam, an answer key, and scoring information. Both of these are very useful study resources, even the 1997 exam since the AP Stats exam hasn't changed much since then. This is the current examis three hours long with two sections. Students can use a graphing calculator for the entire exam. Multiple-Choice Section: 40 questions 90 minutes Worth 50% of total score Free-Response Section: 6 questions (5 free response and one investigative task) 90 minutes Worth 50% of total score The only major difference between the current format and the format of the 1997 exam is that the 1997 exam had 35 multiple-choice questions instead of 40. The content the exam tests has remained consistent, so, despite its age, this test is still a great resource to use and will give you a good idea of what your AP exam will be like. The 2012 exam has the same format as the current exam. Multiple-Choice Questions The College Board often reuses multiple-choice questions, so there are not many released official multiple-choice questions available for AP Stats. Besides the multiple-choice questions from the released exam, the only official multiple-choice questions you can use in your studying are in the AP Statistics Course Description. Beginning on page 19, there are 18 multiple-choice questions, along with an answer key. Free-Response Questions Compared to multiple choice, there are many more official free-response questions you can use to study and, since they are recent, they’ll give you a very accurate idea of what to expect on the real exam. The College Board has released free-response questions from 1998-2017which means you have dozens of official free-response questions to use for your studying.All the free-response questions include answer keys and sample responses. Unofficial AP Statistics Practice Tests and Quizzes Even though they weren’t created by the College Board, many unofficial practice AP Statistics exams are still high-quality and can be a great study resource. For each resource listed below, I explain what it includes and how you should use it. Barron’s Barron’s has a free, high-quality, and complete practice exam that you can take either timed or untimed. Multiple-choice questions are automatically graded after you complete the exam, and there are guidelines for self-scoring your free-response sections. This practice test is similar to the real AP test in both content and format, so you should definitely use it as you study. The next section of this guide has guidelineson how to use this resource and others. Shmoop Shmoop is the only resource on this list that requires you to pay to access any of its resources. Paying its monthly fee of about $25 gets you access to a diagnostic exam, four full-length practice tests, and additional practice questions. With a paid subscription, you also get access to Shmoop’s resources for the SAT, ACT, and other AP exams. Stat Trek This is a complete, 40-question, multiple-choice test. You can take the test timed or untimed, and you can choose to see the answer to each question immediately after you answer it or wait until the end of the exam to see what the correct answers were. Some of these questions are a bit easier than those found on the real AP exam, but this is still a solid resource. McGraw-Hill McGraw-Hill has a 25-question multiple-choice quiz (although the questions are randomly selected from a larger pool, so if you take the quiz multiple times you may get more than 25 questions out of it). The quiz is automatically graded and has brief answer explanations. You can only take the quiz in untimed mode. This is one of the higher-quality short quizzes available with questions similar in content to those you’ll see on the real AP exam. Albert.io Albert.io organizes its practice questions into the four Big Ideas of AP Statistics, and the Big Ideas are further broken down into more specific topics, each with relevant short quizzes which can be useful if you’re studying and want to easily find questions on certain subjects. The questions are ranked as easy, moderate, or difficult, they aren’t timed, and you see the correct answer (plus a detailed explanation) after you answer each question. You will have to sign up for a free account, which includes a limited number of credits you can use to answerquestions. If you want to access more questions beyond your initial allotment, you'll have to buycredits or earn them by referring friends. Varsity Tutors The Varsity Tutors resources include four diagnostic tests and 139 short practice quizzes, organized by topic. The four diagnostic tests each contain 40 multiple-choice questions and, like the Stat Trek test, they are similar to, but a bit easier than, the real AP exam. You’re timed while taking the exams and, as a bonus, after you complete the exam, the questions are organized into different categories so you can see which categories you did best in and which categories you should focus your studying on. For this site, I’d recommend mostly using the diagnostic tests since most of the individual quizzes are so short (only 1-3 questions) that it can be frustrating to continually start and finish separate quizzes. Free Test Online Free Test Online has a 32-question multiple-choice quiz. This is shorter than the multiple-choice section of the real AP exam, but this is a good resource to use if you want a shorter study session. The quiz is not timed and is automatically graded after you complete it. Kansas State University Quiz and Answer Key This is a 25-question multiple-choice quiz from Kansas State University’s Department of Mathematics. The questions are good quality, although you do have to grade the quiz yourself (the correct letter is in bold in the answer key). This another good option if you want a to answer some practice questions but don’t want to take a full exam. Dan Shuster This site has 24 quizzes (12 multiple choice and 12 free response). They were created by an AP Statistics teacher and follow his curriculum schedule. Each multiple-choice quiz has 10 questions, and short answer explanations are given after you complete each quiz. Each free-response quiz has three questions as well as answer explanations. The free-response questions especially are shorter and easier than you’ll find on the real AP exam, but you can still use this resource if you want to do some quick, targeted studying. How to Use These AP Statistics Practice Tests Knowing how to use each of these resources will make your studying more effective, as well as prepare you for what the real AP Statistics exam will be like. Read the guide below to learn how and when you should use these practice tests and quizzes. First Semester Right now you’re still learning a lot of key information, so during your first semester of AP Stats you should focus on quizzes and free-response questions on topics you’ve already covered. Begin using these materials about halfway through the semester. Multiple-Choice Practice For multiple-choice practice, take unofficial quizzes that let you choose which subjects you want to be tested on. This lets you review content you’ve already learned and avoid questions on material you haven’t covered yet. It also helps to time yourself when answering these questions, particularly as it gets later in the semester. Try to spend about 12 minutes each on the first five questions and 30 minutes on the investigative task (which will be the last question in the section). Second Semester Second semester is when you can begin taking complete practice exams and continue reviewing content you’ve already learned. Follow these five steps: Step 1: Complete Your First Complete Practice Exam About a month or two into this semester, after you’ve covered a majority of the content you need to know for the AP exam, take your first complete practice exam. For this first practice test, I recommend using the 1997 official practice exam. You should take this test timed and in one sitting, then correct it when you’re finished. If you haven’t already, this is a good time to set a score goal for yourself. Aim for at least a 3 since this is the lowest passing score for the exam. However, if you scored a 3 or higher on this first practice exam, it’s a good idea to set your goal score even higher, to a 4 or 5. Getting a higher score on the AP Stats exam looks more impressive to colleges, and it can sometimes get you more college credit. Step 2: Analyze Your Score Results After you’ve figured out your score, look over each problem you answered incorrectly and try to figure out why you got the question wrong.As you’re doing this, look for patterns in your results. Are you finding that you got a lot of questions on experimental design wrong? Did you do well on multiple choice but struggled with free response? Figuring out which problems you got wrong and why is the best way to stop repeating your mistakes and make improvements for future exams. Even if it seems tedious, don’t be tempted to skip this step! Step 3: Focus on Your Weak Areas By now, you should have a good idea of the areas or techniques you need to work on to raise your score.If there are specific content areas you need to work on, review them by going over your notes, reading a review book, and answering multiple-choice and free-response questions that focus specifically on those topics. If you’re struggling with your test-taking techniques, for example, running out of time on the exam or misreading questions, the best way to combat these issues is to answer a lot of practice questions under realistic testing conditions. Step 4: Take Another Practice Exam After you’ve spent time improving your weak areas, it’s time to see the results of your hard work.Take and score another complete practice exam, timed and finished in one sitting. This is a good time to use the 2012 official released exam or the Barron's exam. Step 5: Review Your Results to Determine Your Future Study Plan Now you’re able to see how much you’ve improved, and in which areas, since you took your first complete practice exam.If you’ve made improvements and have reached or are close to your target score, you may only need to do some light studying from now until the AP exam. However, if you haven’t improved a lot, or you’re still far from your score goal, you’ll need to analyze the way you’ve been reviewing and think of ways to improve. The most common reason for not improving is not actively studying, and only passively leafing through your notes or reviewing missed questions. Active studying takes longer and requires more effort, but it’s the best way to see significant improvements. As you’re studying, make sure you really understand exactly where you made a mistake for every practice question you answer incorrectly. Also, when you’re reviewing your notes, stop every few minutes and mentally go over what you just learned to make sure you’re retaining the information. You can repeat these steps as many times as you need to in order to make improvements and reach your target score. If you need more complete practice tests, you can create your own by combining a set of official free-response questions with 40 unofficial multiple-choice questions. Stat Trek and Varsity Tutors are probably the best resources to use for the multiple-choice questions since each of their exams already have 40 questions combined for you. Conclusion: Where to Find AP Statistics Practice Exams If you want to score well on the AP Statistics exam, you’ll almost certainly need to take some practice tests. Official resources are the best to use, but there are also lots of high-quality unofficial quizzes and tests that you should be using. Early Childhood Education Essay The access to a high-quality education has become a major issue for many developing school districts in the United States; more importantly, access to a high-quality early childhood education is even further limited to many families not just because of a lack of access, but because of a lack of resources in the United States public school system. Currently, early childhood education is not available for every student in the country and is not universally supported, but developing research around these young students has proven that an early childhood education will contribute to higher graduation percentages, reduced crime rates, higher  annual salaries, and an 8:1 return on economic dollar investment throughout their lifetime—thus producing high-quality citizens. Because of this, optional early childhood education programs should be funded at both the state and federal level and universally supported. Most often, early childhood education is targeted at three to five-year old children before entering elementary school, but many research studies and programs will identify early childhood care and education just as important for this age group as it is for children up to eight years of age. Programs for these children can be either school-based or center-based in urban or  rural areas (Early Education for All 2011). Each year between birth and the age of eight marks a time of exponential brain growth and helps to lay the foundation for subsequent learning and development. Since these years are marked by remarkable brain growth, early childhood is the prime age period for children to receive a quality education (National Education Association ! ROIGER! 2! 2014). It seems as if it is almost clear-cut, a quality early childhood education should be available to all children of the United States in order to help build future societal contributors. Spodek and Saracho’s book, Handbook of Research on the Education of Young Children, reaches beyond its title and touches on the theory and practice of early childhood education. The authors define these three areas as independent pieces in society’s perspectives, but interrelated in reality. Throughout history, early childhood education has been practiced for much longer than it has been researched. Until the last 50 years, when early childhood education became a hot topic in many funding debates, not a lot of researchers had initiated any studies. As early  childhood education development became more popular as a result of developmental psychology interest, Spodek and Saracho started to identify the chain of steps in expanding early childhood education in the United States and investment resources to train educators (Spodek and Saracho 2006). A major concern of early childhood education experts in the United States is the lack of funding, support, and resources available to allow these childcare programs to inhibit growth. In the past few months, funding has been difficult to obtain because of sequester cuts in federal  government funding, but it has been even more difficult to obtain state funding because of the lack of ability to borrow money at the state level or find new revenue. The support for early childhood education is currently limited because of the scarce information known to the public about this issue. Early childhood education is in fact a very bipartisan issue, despite more initiatives from liberal individuals to make these programs a reality. The trouble with supporting early childhood education programs is that most constituents are unaware of the impact it really  has on our society. ! ROIGER! 3! W. Steven Barnett of Rutgers University Center for Early Education explains early childhood education from his expertise in chapter one of School Reform Proposals: The Research Evidence. Children involved in the studies within the first chapter had a disadvantage compared to average students and were more likely to repeat a grade or fail a class. Research from the Child Parent Centers in Chicago sampled 1,500 children ages three to nine with extended elementary programs; the results that came back were more than reassuring. Students  who participated in the program were less likely to be placed in special education, repeat a grade level, or be placed under juvenile arrest. Additionally, these students placed higher on reading and math placement tests, and they also had a higher graduation rate compared to the other test groups. The research documented that achievement gaps were even better for this group if students were from high-poverty neighborhoods. Barnett supports early childhood education expanding to optional everyday schooling before kindergarten, and documents positive effects on a child’s long-term social and economic development. (Molnar and Barnett 2002). Soni Sangha, classified as a middle-class family member of New York City, wrote for a column in the New York Times about her struggles finding affordable access and availability to a public preschool program for her firstborn child. Sangha isn’t alone; several families are being rejected to a public school early childhood education because of lack of resources to educate all children in the state of New York. These families are being forced in a co-op early childhood education, which involves the active participation of parents providing facilities and materials to  a group of children at the lowest maintainable cost possible (Sangha 2011). While this method of education is certainly beneficial and better than no education at all for young children, Barnett’s optimal early childhood recommendations include trained professionals with bachelor degrees in the field educating these youth (Molnar and Barnett 2011). However, because Sangha’s family ! ROIGER! 4! didn’t have access to a public early education program, they had to settle for less than what they were hoping for. Art Rolnick is the senior fellow and co-director of the Human Capital Research  Collaborative in the University of Minnesotas Humphrey School of Public Affairs, as well as the former director of research at the Federal Reserve Bank in Minneapolis. Rolnick began his work in early childhood education almost on accident; he was recruited reluctantly to sit on the board for an early childhood organization known as Ready4K. Rolnick immediately saw the benefits of this early education, not just psychologically but also logistically (Schmickle 2012). As expert economists, fellow colleague Rob Grunewald and Rolnick discovered that high quality education  for disadvantaged young children created a 16% economic output with inflation-adjusted rates (Rolnick and Grunewald 2003). The facts played out over not just one longitudinal study but four longitudinal studies. Every study came back with consistent results: early childhood education is an unbeatable source of public investment. The capstone of these studies, known as the Perry Preschool study, found that every dollar invested in one particular underprivileged preschool program yielded over eight dollars in return. The same study again found lower arrests, higher  salary earnings, more graduations, and overall better learning achievements across the education system throughout elementary and secondary schooling (HighScope 2005). Early childhood education can make a significant impact almost right after birth if a particular individual demands it. For example, a CBS Denver newspaper highlighted Elle, who was a normal baby. However, once she turned 1 ? years old, she started to need more books, games, attention, and interaction. Her parents made a guilty decision of signing her up for two days of school each week even though she had the rest of her life to go to school. After several weeks in the program, the parents felt no remorse as Elle started to thrive in her classroom. Elle’s ! ROIGER! 5! parents later even described it as one of the best things they could have possibly done for Elle (CBS Denver 2013). This Denver toddler proved that early education could make an impact at the speed of which the brain develops, and the solution is to make sure every family has access to this training and development of children. Another concern that has recently been on the rise in early childhood education is retaining individuals to work in these childcare programs. Like any other teacher or care worker, low salaries don’t help to pay potential student loan payments among a host of other financial contributions. According to the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development, pre-school teachers earn an average of $15. 74 per hour and childcare workers receive about $10. 50 per hour. Even bank tellers and janitors earn more money on average per hour than a childcare worker at $11. 91 and $11. 65, respectively. Because pay is low, demand is high. There are 28,422 childcare workers just in Minnesota and that number is expect to increase  by nearly 25% in the next decade (Regan 2013). Because of this demand, trained childcare workers and educators are needed in addition to financial support to make early childhood education a public reality for any family who wishes to enroll. Early childhood education is a growing trend in our society, and the access to it has become a growing issue. Funding is the best solution to this issue, but reform may also help play a major role in the future. Other states, for example, have started to allocate resources differently in their early learning programs. In 2005, Maryland appointed a director of early learning, whose  job was to clean up Marylands current early childhood education program and create sound efficiency. As a result of the appointed director, Maryland has helped 20,000 more children become ready for the first day of school (Maryland Department of Education 2014). The White House currently has many programs that focus on engagement of early learning, but the state of ! ROIGER! 6! Minnesota does not have many well-known programs that are specifically targeted for early learners. One of these programs through the White House is Race To The Top: Early Learning  Challenge, which allocates funds to states who are preparing their children for kindergarten more readily. Another very well known federal government early learning program is Head Start. Head Start programs give needy children the opportunity of receiving an early learning education. However, the program does not expand to every single need child in America, which creates many difficulties for all of the children who are in need of an early childhood education. Currently, the President is looking for ways to expand Head Start to more families in America. In  a time of economic crisis, the best way to deal with this problem from Head Start is through more funds. Both the Early Learning Challenge and Head Start have links at the state government level, but are largely projects of the national government. Minnesota needs to create a successful early childhood education environment in our state, and here is how we are going to do it. Experts recommend that the federal government quadruples funding for Early Head Start programs and maintain the level of funding on a yearly basis (Kagan and Reid 2009). There is no doubt that these programs cannot pay for themselves,  so the funds have to come from an alternative source besides the federal government. Minnesota’s cigarette tax recently increased from $1. 23 to $2. 83 per pack, and while this is one of the leading tobacco taxes in the country, it should be increased even further to total a tax of $3. 00 per pack. If the revenue from this increase were to be proportional to that of the most recent tax increase, the state would raise $223 million to invest into early childhood education programs (Hammersley 2013). ! ROIGER! 7! Even this simple solution would be an incredibly large increase in early childhood  education and childcare funding compared to the Ohio legislature, which passed measures of $30 million in additional funding for this fiscal year as a result of 2,100 child slots cut along with 307 staff jobs across the state due to sequestration. According to Gayle Kelly, executive director of the Minnesota Head Start Association, Minnesota will have 760 childcare positions in Head Start cut itself (Pew 2013). Imagine how $223 million in revenue from tobacco taxes could impact those 760 children, in addition to several thousand more. An additional opportunity to access funding for early childhood education programs is  putting the issue on a priority list compared to professional sports stadium construction and evaluating the best source of funding. This is one way that the public perception of early education programs might change and allow research to be initiated. Often times, the construction of huge entertainment attractions is viewed as an investment in economic development. However, early childhood education and childcare programs are also an economic investment. Because of one dollar invested into the program, eight dollars is turned back into the economy. This results from a higher standard of living due to a better job and a better  environment to grow up in compared to someone who might grow up in poverty. Not only are they an economic investment, but society also receives a social investment that entertainment complexes cannot reach. Early childhood educates builds better human beings by reducing crime rates, raising educational capacities, and preparing children to be future career workers. Early childhood education programs are very beneficial to our country. They are important because they contribute to the growth of well-rounded citizens who have active engagement in social, economical, and political engagements. The federal government has implemented programs, but they are also needed at the local and state level to have a larger ! ROIGER! 8! impact on these young children. Implementation of these programs, such as that of the Maryland coordinator, would help create an efficient early childhood education learning environment in Minnesota. Early childhood education is important because it fosters growth from birth until the age of eight years old, which is when 90% of the brain’s learning is developed. If children are to learn anything in their life, they must start to learn at the beginning of their lifetime. One child  from an early childhood education program could end up being soccer mom of the year in Manhattan or the first female president of the United State—but that will only happen if there is funding to help that child unlock her potential. ! What is meant by an integrative project management process and why is this so important? What are the pitfalls if such an approach is not taken? The main goal of the integrative project management process is to take a project and design it around the specific needs of a company. This process can sometimes force companies to change how they conduct business, who they advertise too and how they attract new customers. What makes the integrative project management so important to companies is success. When a company spends millions of dollars to implement a new strategy, they want to ensure things go smoothly, especially if they are changing the direction of their business. These projects can take a bit longer to complete because the project manager will have to take the time to get to know the company, and how the conduct business, but in the end a business is usually more successful if they use an integrative project management strategy. When companies don’t follow this stringy, and go with a generic project template it usually ends up wasting time, money and resources. The final project, even though it is complete won’t meet their needs and usually more money is spent on small adjustments to finalize the project. I see this at work all the time, now one ever looks at our computer system as a whole, and designs a plan around what we already have in place. This can become frustrating because we end up with three and four different networks, and none of them ever seem to work correctly. Why is the traditional project management approach less effective when project scope is not clearly understood? Provide examples to illustrate your points. Our text refers to the triple constraint of scope, schedule, and budget. It’s a triple constraint in the sense that variability on any one of the constraints affects the other two. Effective project management must maintain scope, schedule and budget in a relative equilibrium or balance. That is, scope change, either to expand or contract it, will by necessity affect schedule and budget. For example, if an organization wants to make more narrow the scope of a project that is underway, it should require fewer resources and/or less time to accomplish. On the other hand, if the organization wants to expand the scope, it will have a direct effect on resources and schedule in that it will require more resources to finish on schedule, or the schedule will have to slip to accommodate finite resources spread across more project tasks. If project scope is poorly or improperly defined at project initiation, the schedule and budget will also be less valid because of the triple constraint nature of scope, schedule, and budget. Later in the project management timeline when additional requirements may expand the scope, schedule and budget will be impacted. For example, when a former employer was planning a new downtown office building as a company headquarters, they expanded the scope of the project to include a retail shopping and restaurant area. This necessitated arrangements with the city government to expand an adjacent public parking structure and allow a below-street-level tunnel between the building and the parking structure. This scope change resulted in a six-month schedule slip and required additional resources. Wk1 summary (Monday) Typical first week; rather steep curve as the learning teams form, I get into a â€Å"battle rhythm† so I can meet my individual and team requirements, and I figure out what software/tools I need to get the work done. This is only my second online course, and I am reminded that one of the advantages of being a ground student in a particular cohort is that the learning teams stay more or less intact from one course to the next, and we can really hit the ground running. Spring has always rightly been identified with youth, and the sorrows of youth are poignant and unrepeatable, but he never thinks it is too late to achieve something, a dream or a goal, could be very large or very tiny. When James was young, he had always had a dream that he could travel across the country and now he still has it. Ever since high school James loved jogging and fishing. In the 1980s, a lot of electrical equipment and electronic devices came into this world. At this time, many experts and scientists were predicting the 21th century would be the internet age. As he was a boy, no one could stop James Cambell to be attracted to these electronic devices. So, he started playing and learning about these devices. After he finished his schooling, he got a job in electronics. Many years later, he fell in love with a girl who later became his wife. Everything is impermanent and can be changed. Marriage or divorce and its many ups and downs, still exercised a powerful hold over newspapers, magazines, and the airwaves. Unfortunately, James Cambell was one of them. However, divorce is not always a bad thing. It could be a good in that you as an individual get less stressed and more free time in life. Today, he’s still working in the electrical field and he thinks it is an appropriate time to get more knowledge about electrical technology. Consequently, he’s at HCC now studying Electrical Engineering. In our youth, everyone makes mistakes, and wondered what the world had in stock for them. They too might have had confusion about the future. Brian Mosley was born in Houston. Without exception, he made a so-called mistake when he was young. Life can sure throw a curve ball when you least expect it. A newborn entered his life at age eighteen and had to find work to support him and his new family. When I asked him, â€Å"have you ever had any regrets about what happened?† He said he never thought it was a mistake because he looked at the situation through optimist eyes. If there was only half a cup of water left, an optimistic person may cheer for it because they still have the half. Obviously, Brian was an optimistic person that  never felt unhappy or sorrowful. There is no denying that, most optimists have a high happiness index, which can hardly be experienced by pessimists. His attitude had moved his wife and parents strongly so they too can view life in the same perspective. As a result, the atmosphere of optimism and happiness had been naturally set up and his mom aided to him to take care of the baby. Fourteen years later, Brian’s second boy was expectably born when he was thirty two years old. Today, he is a thirty nine years old man with less pressure and more freedom. His work schedule allows him to attend HCC to continue receiving a higher education to later support his family even further. Now he’s studying physical therapy for his interest. He hopes he can travel with his family on road trips across the whole country in the upcoming years. There is always a lot of fun in an extended family. Sometimes people may squabble but never take it to heart. Twenty seven years ago, Michael was born in Houston and he had two brothers and three sisters. Unfortunately, he was oldest child had to take care of them and forgive their mistakes. In other words he had to start learning more than his brothers and sisters such as doing housework. In such a situation, he had been independent earlier than others. Every time when Michael was awake dead at night he always felt lonely and so he would ask himself what is needed of him. Sometimes, he still felt lonely, but is loneliness a terrible thing? Obviously, the answer is no, because loneliness also could bring something good to him. Because of lacking help from others, he became prone to dealing with all kinds of situations by himself. Thus, he would be more independent in life and he can endure more setbacks and pressure. Now Michael likes watching comedy and shopping with his friends. He has a three years old daughter. And he’s studying business in HCC to get a more interesting and better job.
